DIGICEL DONATES $2 000 TO THE HIV/AIDS FOOD BANK

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 – (Bridgetown, Barbados): The HIV/AIDS Food Bank will have more capital to carry out its outstanding work with persons and families affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, thanks to a financial donation from mobile telecommunications company, Digicel.

Alex Tasker, Digicel’s head of sales and marketing, recently presented the Food Bank with a $2 000 cheque as part of the company’s ongoing contribution to the charitable organization which assists those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

“We have been continuously contributing to the HIV/AIDS Food Bank in whatever way we can and see this as an important part of our corporate outreach.  We understand the importance of such organizations and know our contribution will go a long way in assisting those who have been impacted in one way or another by HIV/AIDS and encourage other companies to join this effort,” Tasker said.

Donna Barker, nutritionist and Food Bank manager, thanked Digicel for its contribution noting that the money will go towards assisting the approximately 300 clients who rely on the services of the HIV/AIDS Food Bank.

““Digicel has been one of the most generous contributors to the HIV Food Bank over the last five years donating cash along with annual food donations from their staff food drives.

“The money donated by the company will be used to purchase groceries which are used to make up the hundreds of hampers given out each month to clients who attend the HIV Food Bank,” Barker noted.
