DIGICEL ENCOURAGES CUSTOMERS TO RECYCLE OLD CELL PHONES AND CHARGERS
Thursday, October 21, 2010 – Bridgetown, Barbados: DIGICEL is encouraging its customers to recycle their old cell phones and chargers for a worthy cause, as part of the mobile telecommunication company’s latest campaign, “Be the Solution and Make a Difference”.
Digicel’s commercial director, Alex Tasker, explained that the new initiative encourages the company’s customers to be environmentally friendly but was also a drive to raise funds for the Nightingale Children’s Home.
“We have placed recycle bins at all of our Digicel outlets for our customers to use and all proceeds collected from the campaign will be donated to the Nightingale Home, which we have a close relationship with.
“We know that a large number of our customers have old cell phones and chargers that are just there catching dust and more often than not it is because they do not want to discard of them in the wrong manner. So we are giving them the perfect way to get rid of them, which will go a long way for the Children at Nightingale,” Tasker explained.
He added that the company has been working with the Child Care Board and Nightingale for a few years now and was happy that another Digicel initiative would be bringing smiles to the faces of the children in their care.
“This is a worthy cause and I want to encourage all of our customers to get on board for the children and to protect the environment as well. It is a win win situation,” Tasker noted.
Digicel customer, Cindy Downes, was one of the first to utilise the bins: “I think that this is an excellent project and would like to see more companies taking Digicel’s lead and undertaking similar initiatives to protect the environment.”
