DIGICEL, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LINE & LENGTH INC., ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF LIVE RADIO COVERAGE OF WEST INDIES AWAY SERIES 2011
- Fans in for a radio treat as Line & Length set to cover all matches of the West Indies tour of Bangladesh and India
Thursday October 6th 2011 – Bridgetown, Barbados: Digicel, proud sponsor of West Indies Cricket, has announced its sponsorship of live radio coverage for all games in the upcoming West Indies away series against Bangladesh and India through its partnership with regional network broadcaster, Line & Length.
Thanks to Digicel’s sponsorship, Line & Length Network will provide regional supporters with live ball-by-ball radio broadcasts of the eagerly anticipated away series beginning next week. In addition, the Regional Super50 tournament in Guyana will also be aired on radio stations in the Caribbean.
The arrangement between Line & Length and Digicel is an extension of their partnership in which they have teamed up to provide coverage of the Digicel Home Series since 2009 and this year’s free-to-air coverage will allow listeners around the Caribbean to follow the games, enter competitions to win prizes courtesy of Digicel as well as voice their opinions live on air.
Digicel Group Head of Sponsorship, Karl Donnelly, said; “As proud sponsor of West Indies cricket, we want our customers and West Indies fans to hear how our team is doing at home and on overseas tours. As such, we are happy to continue our relationship with Line & Length and we look forward to hearing our team’s performance overseas.”
Line & Length Inc. Managing Director, Barry Wilkinson, said; “The move to provide coverage of the overseas tours was prompted by a lack of radio broadcasts for West Indies trips outside the Caribbean in recent years. However, we have listened to our audiences and while many fans like watching cricket on television, many also enjoy listening to radio throughout the night and into the wee hours of the morning when the West Indies team is on tour.”
“We need to respond to our listeners and we could not have done it without the help of our corporate partners, Digicel,” continued Wilkinson.
The broadcasts will be aired on 15 radio stations in 13 countries across the region and will feature some of the usual Line & Length voices including, Andrew Mason, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose, Simon Crosskill and David Brook.
The West Indies’ tour of Bangladesh, which includes two Tests, three One-Day Internationals and one Twenty20, runs from Tuesday 11th October to Thursday 3rd November 2011, while the India series that follows immediately after, will have three Tests and five One-Day Internationals and is expected to finish on Monday 12th December 2011.
Regional fans can also listen to live coverage of the Regional Super50 in Guyana from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 29th October when Line & Length will air two matches per day during the preliminary segment of the competition along with the semi-finals and final.
SportsMax, the Caribbean sports channel, is also an associate sponsor of the coverage for the matches in Bangladesh and India.
