The telecommunications company teamed up with the partners to travel back to the 1940’s to host “Cassablanca” – a vintage move night in aid of the Special Olympics Barbados and their upcoming travel to Greece for the Olympic Summer Games.

Patrons who attended the fundraiser at the Olympus Theatres dined on sumptuous hors d’ourves and cocktails, canapés, before the start of the movie and several prizes from partners were won during the night.

Digicel’s Commercial Director, Alex Tasker explained that the fundraiser is another initiative to raise funds to send the Special Team to Summer Olympic Games in Greece.

He stated, “Digicel Barbados has been very committed to helping to raise much needed funds to send the Special Olympics team to Greece, and for this particular event we are heartened by the tremendous support of Mix 96.9FM, Diamonds International, London Designs, Brydens, Focused Communications, Renaissance Designs Inc and Olympus Theatres. Without them this fundraiser would not happen and we wish to publicly acknowledge their contribution”.

Diamond’s International Marketing Manager, Simone Ward was quoted in stating, “Diamonds International is very pleased to be one of the partners in this very important charity initiative for the Special Olympics team of Barbados.  When we were asked to partner, we immediately accepted and knew that our support would bring joy and fulfilment to the lives of some very special Barbadians. We wish the Special Olympics Team an enjoyable trip and that they return home proud of their accomplishments”.

Sheldon Browne, Sales & Marketing Manager at Mix 96.9 FM stated, “Mid February 2011, on the heels of the successful conclusion of another event, Mix 96.9 F.M was approached by Digicel to assist as a sponsor to raise funds for our Special Olympics Team to travel to The Special Olympics Games. Immediately, Mix 96 eagerly committed its involvement to this very worthy cause. For Mix 96 it was and has remained a matter of how and how much as opposed to if we will help. We (Mix 96.9 F.M) has always enjoyed from working with Digicel in every event in which we have had the pleasure of involvement. As such we at Mix 96.9 F.M remain committed to assisting our Special Olympics Team and to remain a firm sponsor”.

Several patrons of the event stayed true to the theme of the team, and came dressed in vintage gowns, fedoras and tuxedos and enjoyed being pampered by Digicel. At the end of the night, $20,000 was raised for Special Olympics Barbados.
