CITIZEN BAND RADIO

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - (Bridgetown, Barbados): Digicel is helping to ensure effective communication of the Barbados Citizen Band Radio (BCBR) team.

The telecommunications company recently donated two (2) Blackberries to the BCBR, which will enhance the communication of the team during natural disasters especially hurricanes and events with mass crowds. The BCBR team relies heavily on mobile handsets to communicate with the department of emergency management, the police department and the roving response team among other emergency organizations during disasters and events with mass crowds, including Crop Over.

Randy Chandler, President of the BCBR in expressing his gratitude to Digicel stated “Communication is vital to the mandate of our organization and we will be utilizing some of the data features like Blackberry Messenger as well to communicate as effectively and quickly as possible”. He added that Digicel has been consistently supporting the BCBR for some years now, and looks forward to its continued partnership.

Alex Tasker, Digicel’s Commercial Director, noted that the company’s support for the BCBR is important element of its commitment to its community outreach. He added, “As a telecommunications company, we know the importance of communication, and we know that our contribution of the blackberries to the BCBR will greatly assist them in communicating during disasters and events with mass crowd”.
