Digicel Prepaid BlackBerry Service

1.     What is the Blackberry service?

·          It is a product offered by “Research in Motion” (RIM). The service allows customers to send and receive email from their devices, browse the Internet, use Blackberry messenger and install and use a wide variety of third party applications.

·         The BlackBerry service allows you to stay in touch with everything that matters to you while you’re on the go. Email, phone, maps, organizer, applications, games, the Internet and more.

 2.     What is the Digicel Prepaid Blackberry service?

·         Digicel Barbados is now giving the Prepaid customers the ability to access and use all the functionality of their Blackberry devices (Internet, Email, Blackberry Messenger etc.) for a set time period (depending on the plan selected).

·         Digicel customers will receive BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) which allows will allow you to stay in touch on the go; an office in your hands!
 
3.     Does the new Prepaid Blackberry service offer the same services as postpaid?
  • YES! This service offers the same functionality as our Postpaid BlackBerry internet service, but includes alternatives for signing up.

4.     Who can activate the Prepaid Blackberry Service?

·         Only Prepaid customers can activate this service.
5.     What do I need to access the Prepaid Blackberry Service?

·         A Prepaid account with adequate credit available.

·         GSM Blackberry device or GSMBlackberry Connect’ compatible device.

 

6.     Which handsets are compatible with the Prepaid Blackberry Service?

·        All Blackberry handset models

Blackberry Pearl - 8100, 8110, 8120

Blackberry Kickstart - 8220

Blackberry Curve – 8300, 8310, 8320, 8900

Blackberry 8800 series – 8800, 8820, 8830

Blackberry Bold – 9000

Blackberry Connect capable devices

BlackBerry connect devices are handsets from third party manufacturers e.g. (HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Palm) that are compatible with the Blackberry ‘push’ technology.

·         Examples of Blackberry connect capable devices are HTC Tilt, Motorola Q, Nokia E66, Palm Treo.

·         Users should check their phone’s model for compatibility with the Blackberry Connect software/service.

7.     Which plans are available with the Prepaid Blackberry Service?

·         Weekly (7) Day plan - $10

·         Monthly (30) Day plan – $30

 

8.     What are the benefits of the Digicel’s prepaid Blackberry service as compared to the competition?

·        Digicel is giving our prepaid customers a choice of plans to suit their needs.  These 2 plans give the customer a choice of 7 days at $10 or 30 days at $30.

·        Our Prepaid BlackBerry Service can be activated very quickly through easy input codes rather than having to visit or call Customer Care.

·        Setup of email and other services on your Blackberry device is quick and easy after your prepaid plan is activated.

 

9.     How do I activate the prepaid Blackberry Service?

STEPS:

1.      Dial *136# SEND to initiate Prepaid Blackberry activation.

 

2.      Once the request is received you will receive a welcome text message and instruction text messages similar to the below:

·         Welcome Message: Welcome to the Digicel Prepaid Blackberry Service. Instructions for activation will follow in the next SMS message.

·         Introductory Message:  Welcome to the Digicel Prepaid Blackberry Service. To activate Prepaid BB 7 at a cost of 10 BBD dial *136*10#. To activate Prepaid BB 30 at a cost of 30 BBD dial *136*30#”

 

Once a plan has been selected and the request has been received you will be prompted to confirm your selection via the following text message:

·         Plan Confirmation Message 1:  You have selected the ^PLAN_NAME^.  A charge of ^CHARGE^ will be deducted from your account.  To confirm dial*136*1# and to cancel dial *136*9#.

 

3.      Once the activation is complete, a final confirmation text message is sent advising you that your selected plan is now active.

·         Plan Confirmation Message 2:  Thanks for joining ^PLAN_NAME^, for ^PLAN_DURATION^ days starting ^START_DATE^. Please remove and replace phone battery to complete activation. Thanks for choosing Digicel!

 

10.     Can I complete the activation process without removing their battery?

  • YES, you can activate the service with a few short steps
  • Simply access the Menu on your phone
    • Go to ‘Options’,  
    • Go to ‘Advanced Options’
    • Go to ‘Host Routing Table’ , press the options button or BlackBerry Button and choose ‘REGISTER NOW’

 

The device will now automatically register on the network. You will receive a message from ‘Blackberry Registration’ stating “Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network”
 

11.     How many Email accounts can I setup with my Blackberry device?

  • You can have up to Ten (10) separate Email accounts on your Blackberry device.

N.B. This includes your device email address @digicel.blackberry.com

 

12.     What if I have insufficient credit to activate a Prepaid Blackberry Plan?

·         You will receive an SMS stating “Sorry you do not have enough funds to activate the plan. Please add credit to your account and try again by sending *136#. Thank you for choosing Digicel”.

·         The BlackBerry Service will not be activated.

Once sufficient credit is on account, you may try again by entering *136
 

13.     Can I cancel my Prepaid Blackberry plan once it has been activated?

·         No. Once your Prepaid BlackBerry plan expires you can opt not to renew it.
 

14.     If I have a Prepaid Blackberry plan active will I be charged to browse Digicel Live or purchase ringtones/pics?

·        DigiPics & Tones is a premium service that is NOT included in the Prepaid Blackberry offering.

·        When you browse the Digicel Live WAP website, it is considered WAP browsing.

Digicel WAP Browsing is charged at 1 cent per Kilobyte.

Important Tip: If you have accessed Digicel Live using their browser and wish to  browse other websites without being charged. Simply close and re-open your browser
 

15.     If I am roaming will I be charged to use data services on my Blackberry?

·         Yes. When roaming, data charges will be rated at the ROAMING DATA RATE
 

·         Our customers can only roam in countries that support Prepaid Roaming, please refer to www.digicelbarbados.com for full list of Digicel Roaming partners.

 

16.     Can customers renew their prepaid Blackberry plan?

·         YES. One (1) day before the plan expires, an SMS is sent to customer reminding them that their plan will soon expire and also how to renew it. 

After a plan has expired
you will be given a grace period of 30 days to renew your plan by entering a USSD code *136*1*Plan_code#

·         Once the grace period has finished however, simply re-start the activation by entering *136# in order to activate the Prepaid BlackBerry service.

 

17.     Can I renew and select another plan?

  •  Only your current Prepaid BlackBerry plan can be renewed. 
  • Important Tip! - If you wish to select another plan allow your current service to expire, then start the activation process and select your new plan.

18.     What happens if my plan has expired?

  •          If your plan expires you will have a grace period of 30 days to renew your plan by entering a USSD code *136*1*Plan_code# .

·         If you do not activate during the grace period, you will lose your current email configurations, but you will still be able to renew by dialing *136# and following the instructions to activate.  You will be required to reconfigure your email accounts. 

19.     How do Customers setup Email on their Blackberry?

Shortly after a plan is activated and the Blackberry restarted/registered, the browser will automatically load an email set-up webpage.
 If the webpage does not automatically load, you may select the Email settings icon from your BlackBerry menu or go to http://digicel.blackberry.com from their computer.
 

20.      If I am experiencing issues with the service, how do I troubleshoot?

Customer cannot access Blackberry services

·         Visit the BlackBerry FAQ link for troubleshooting tips.

·         Does your device have upper case or lower case GPRS/EDGE?

o   Upper case GPRS or EDGE indicates that the customer has data services, lower case gprs or edge indicates that the customer does not.

 

21.     If I need help using  handset features on my blackberry what should I do?

·         Simply contact 100 (customer care) or check your device manual for assistance.

  • Additionally customers may access www.digicelbarbados.com and visit the BlackBerry FAQ link or visit the BlackBerry site directly at www.blackberry.com for general information on how to use their Blackberry.

22.     What common errors can customers experience during the activation process?

Incompatible device

·         If customer receives message during activation that device is incompatible, “Cannot activate the selected plan. Device is incompatible with service.”

Customer will need to purchase compatible device for use with the service (GSM Blackberry device or Blackberry connect capable device).

 

Account is temporarily blocked

·         If customer receives message that account is blocked, ”Your account is temporarily blocked. The service fee cannot be charged at this moment. Please call 100 for assistance.”

·         Customer should call customer care with verification for assistance in unblocking account.

 

23.     What can I do if my Blackberry is network locked?

·        Digicel does not offer an unlocking service as it is illegal for Digicel to do so.

However third party companies/vendors do offer this service.
 

24.     What if I have an email account with another network/carrier on my Blackberry?

·         Your email service setup on the device will have to be removed by the other network/carrier.

·         Simply contact that carrier/network with the appropriate verification/credentials for that account to be removed on your device.
 
 

25.     Where can I purchase a Blackberry Device?

·         Customers may purchase Blackberry handsets at any of retailers in the entire Dealer Channel.
