MyMail FAQ

  1. What is MyMail?
    • It is a WAP email service that’s allows Digicel subscribers to access and manage their personal email accounts on their WAP enabled handset.
    • The email accounts accessible via MyMail are:
      • Hotmail
      • Gmail
      • Yahoo
      • Caribsurf
      • Freemotions
      • Sunbeach
    • Customers will also have access to the main functionalities of his/her mail box.
    • NOTE: Customers will have limited access to their Contact List. They will ONLY be able to view contacts added by MyMail.
  1. Who is the MyMail service for?
    • This service is available ONLY to Digicel postpaid and prepaid customers.
    • Digicel customers with a GPRS compatible and provisioned handset
    • Persons on the go who need to access their personal email accounts.
  1. What do I need in order to access the service?
    • A WAP compatible handset that is provisioned with the GPRS service.
    • Greater than BDS $0.01 credit
    • An email account registered with one of the following providers:
      Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, Freemotions, Caribsurf or Sunbeach.
  1. How do I access the MyMail service?
      STEPS:
    1. Go to the Digicel Live homepage at wapDigicel.com on your WAP compatible phone and click on the MY Digicel link.
    2. Once the MY Digicel link loads click on EMAIL
    3. This link will take you to the MyMail homepage where customers can then go ahead and add existing email accounts for Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, Caribsurf, Sunbeach and Freemotions.
  1. What is the service cost?
  • Regular WAP browsing apply.
  • Regular rates are $0.01 per kb.
  1. How will the MyMail service be charged?
  • The MyMail service does NOT carry a service charge at this time.
  • It is $0.01 per kilobyte to access the Digicel Live main homepage.
  1. How do I register email accounts to the MyMail service?
      STEPS:
    1. Click on the EMAIL link under the MY Digicel section on the Digicel Live homepage at wapDigicel.com
    2. Once MyMail homepage loads select the ADD MAIL ACCOUNT tab.
    3. Select the email provider for which the email account is being added eg. Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, Caribsurf, Sunbeach, Freemotions.
    4. Then enter your username (you can either enter the entire email address including the username and the server name eg. digigirl1@hotmail.com or just the username eg. digigirl1) and password which is the same as the login details for the email account when accessing it from a desktop or other means.
    5. Select SUBMIT which will then redirect you to the MyMail homepage.
    6. Registered accounts will Now be displayed.

  1. How should I enter email account usernames?
    • Email usernames can either be entered in either of the following format:
  1. After registering my email account to the MyMail service, how do I access my email account?
      STEPS:
    1. Click on the EMAIL link under the MY Digicel tab on the Digicel Live homepage at wapDigicel.com.
    2. Once the MyMail homepage loads, scroll down to the email account you wish to access and then select Ok on your phone.
    3. Enter your PIN number (this feature is optional and only applies if you have activated this feature).
    4. NOTE: Your PIN is a security feature to prevent unauthorized persons from accessing your email account (s) from your handset. SEE QUESTION 11 ON HOW TO ACTIVATE A PIN NUMBER
    5. You will then be redirected to your email account’s inbox.

  1. How do I activate a PIN on an email account?

There are two (2) ways to activate the PIN PROMPT option on your MyMail account:
OPTION 1

      STEPS:
    1. First access the email account from MyMail homepage.
    2. On the email account’s homepage there is a prompt called PIN PROMPT (Off) which will allow you to enable or disable the feature.
    3. Select PIN PROMPT (Off).
    4. A pop-up screen will then appear requesting that you enter new PIN code and confirm PIN.
  • Enter and confirm the PIN and then select the “SUBMIT” button.
  • The following message will then be displayed advising that the PIN has been activated.
Message: “Your PIN has been enabled
OPTION 2
      STEPS:
    1. Select MY PROFILE tab on the Mailbox Menu page.
    2. A pop-up screen will then appear requesting that you enter new PIN code and confirm PIN.
    3. Enter and confirm the PIN and then select the “SUBMIT” button.
    4. The following message will then be displayed advising that the PIN has been activated.

Message: “Your PIN has been enabled

NOTE: Each time that specific email account is selected the four (4) digit PIN number has to be entered to gain access to the email account’s inbox.

11. What is the format of PIN numbers
  • PIN numbers have to be numeric and of four (4) characters in length
12. Can I change my PIN number?
  • YES, you do have the option of changing your PIN number
  • You have to first deactivate the PIN and then reactivate it with a new PIN number.
13. Can multiple email accounts have the same PIN numbers?
  • YES
  • Different emails accounts can have the same PIN numbers as long at it is four (4) characters in length and numeric format only.
  • On most phones whilst entering the PIN number the number selected is shown for about 1-2 seconds before it defaults to an asterisk.
  • For a few phones this does not happen so it is advised that users change their input mode to number format only when entering the PIN to ensure that the correct character is selected.
14. Do I have to enter my email account details each time I attempt to log into one of my email accounts?
  • NO, your username and password will be saved in the system
  • Each time an email account needs to be used, you simply select it from the list of registered accounts on the MyMail homepage.
  • For those who require additional security due to their username and password being saved into the system, you can activate a PIN number for each email account (Please see question 11).
15. Does the MyMail service have any security features?
  • YES, there is a PIN option.
  • Customers have the option of activating a PIN for EACH email account
  • Once a PIN is activated for each respective email account that is registered it will have to be entered each time one attempts to access the email account.
16. Which email providers can email accounts be registered for using MyMail?
    • Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, Caribsurf, Freemotions and Sunbeach are the email providers currently supported by the MyMail service.
17. What functions do I have access to once I access my email accounts?
  • The options that are available once logged into an email account are:
  • INBOX- displays email messages sent to email account. Users can reply to emails, forwards emails, save the contact info of an email sender and delete emails.
  • Digicel

    • COMPOSE- allows you to create email messages to be sent to another email address
    • CONTACTS- allows you to view, add, delete or search for contacts that are saved using the MyMail service ONLY.

    NOTE: You will be unable to manage the Contacts List saved to the desktop version of email account.

    • MY PROFILE- users have the options:
    • Pin Prompt (Off) OR Pin Prompt (On) - allows you to activate or deactivate a PIN number on the email account currently being accessed.
    • User Identity- allows you to attach a display name to the email account so that when emails are sent to other email addresses that will be the name displayed when the message hits their inbox.
    • About- gives the service specifications.
    • PIN PROMPT (Off) OR PIN PROMPT (On)- manages whether a PIN is activated or deactivated on the current email account being accessed
    • SIGN OUT- will sign you out of the email account currently being accessed.
    • Digicel HOME- redirects you to the Digicel Live homepage
    18. How do I read my emails?

    STEPS:

    • Access the EMAIL link under the COMMUNITIES tab on the Digicel
    • Live homepage
    • Once on the MyMail homepage loads select the registered email account.
    • This will redirect you to the respective email account’s settings
    • Select INBOX
    • Go to the email message you want to read and then select OPEN
    • The email message will then be displayed.

    19. Can attachments be opened using MyMail?
    • YES, Email attachments can be opened via MyMail.
    20. Can attachments be viewed on phones that can only WAP browse?
    • YES. Once the software used for the attachment is supported by the phone then the file can be viewed.
    • Persons using a WAP compatible phone can view email attachments via MyMail.
    • Phones that have WAP and WEB browsing capabilities can also view attachments via MyMail.
    21. How do I delete emails?
      STEPS:
    1. Access the EMAIL link under the MY Digicel on the Digicel Live homepage.
    2. Once on the MyMail homepage select the registered email account.
    3. This will redirect you to the respective email account’s settings.
    4. Select INBOX
    5. Go to the email message you want to delete and then select DELETE.
    6. You will be asked to confirm delete again
    7. A message will then be displayed indicating that the delete process was successful.
    8. How do I reply to emails?
      STEPS:
    1. When you access a specific email account select INBOX
    2. Scroll to the email message then select OPEN
    3. Once the email message opens then scroll down to MSG OPTIONS.

    7. The sender’s email address automatically populates the TO field.
    8. Likewise the previous e-mail’s subject name automatically populates the SUBJECT field
    9. In the MESSAGE field type your message (optional)
    10. Scroll down to the SEND tab and select OK on your phone.
    22. How do I forward emails?

      STEPS:

    1. When you access a specific email account select INBOX
    2. Scroll to the email message then select OPEN
    3. Once the email message opens then scroll down to MSG OPTIONS
    4. Select FORWARD
    5. The sender’s email address should be entered in the TO field.
    6. You can either select an email address from your contacts list saved to the MyMail service OR type in an email address for the message to be sent to in the box directly under the TO field.
    7. The previous e-mail’s subject name automatically populates the SUBJECT field
    8. In the MESSAGE filed type your message (optional)
    9. Scroll down to the SEND tab and select ok on your phone.
    23. Can I delete/remove an email account that has been registered on MyMail?
    • YES, on the MyMail homepage select the REMOVE ACCOUNT tab.
    • You can then select the email account that you want to delete.
    • You will be required to confirm removal of the email account selected.
    • A confirmation message will then appear indicating success in the removal of the account.
    24. How do I add contacts to my Contact List?

      STEPS:

    1. Access the EMAIL link under the MY Digicel tab on the Digicel Live homepage
    2. Once on the MyMail homepage loads select the registered email account.
    3. This will redirect you to the respective email account’s settings
    4. Select CONTACTS
    5. Then select ADD CONTACT
    6. Enter a nick name and an email account for the contact you want to save.
    7. Select ADD CONTACT
    8. You will then see a confirmation message saying that the contact was successfully added.
    25. If the same Contact has two email addresses can I save them with the same nickname?
    • NO, nicknames have to be different
    • However, the same email address can be saved under different nicknames.
    26. Will I be able to access my Contact List saved to my email account provided by the email provider?
    • NO. ONLY contacts saved during the use of MyMail service will be displayed or will be available.
    • Contacts saved whilst accessing the email accounts from a desktop CANNOT be viewed or modified.
    27. In addition to the registered email accounts what other options are made available to me on the MyMail homepage?
      • The following options are available:
        • ADD MAIL ACCOUNT- allows you to register email accounts to the MyMail service so that login details such as username and password do not have to be re-entered, such information will be saved
        • REMOVE MAIL ACCOUNT- allows you to delete email accounts registered to the MyMail service
        • HELP- has a General Information document and a User Guide.
        • Digicel HOME- redirects you to the Digicel Live homepage
    28. If Digicel’s GPRS service is offline will I still be able to access the service?
    • NO, GPRS needs to be working on the handset in order for you to access the service
    29. Can the MyMail service be accessed from a computer?
    • NO, the service is only available on handsets that allow WAP browsing.
    30. If I have a phone that can do both WAP and web browsing can I still use the service?
      • YES, once the handset can WAP browse you can access the MyMail service.
    31. If I use my phone as a modem to browse the internet on a lap top or a computer will I still be able to access the MyMail service?
    • NO. Once a phone is used as a modem then you will be web browsing
    • Customers will then have to access their email accounts from their desktop by directly accessing the email provider’s website.
    • The service can ONLY be accessed from a handset via WAP browsing.
    32. Can two different email accounts be registered to the same email provider?
    • YES. There is no limit to the amount of email accounts that can be registered to any one service provider or to the MyMail service for that matter.
    33. Can the same email be sent to more than one email addresses simultaneously?
    • NO. Each email can only be sent to one contact at any one time.
    • Emails CANNOT be sent to multiple contacts at the same time
    34. Will any of my emails sent to other email providers be blocked?
      • Some email providers may block the receipt of some emails you send to another email addresses as they may be identified as spam.
      • This will more than likely happen with business email addresses.
      • If this happens, ask the customer to try sending to an alternative email address.
    35.Can I access the MyMail service when roaming or Digi-Roaming?
    • YES. Once you are able to GPRS Roam in the country to which you are roaming, you WILL be able to access the MyMail service.
    36. What Will I be charged to access the MyMail service while roaming?
    • You will be charged the NOrmal GRPS roaming rates applicable to the country you are roaming in.
    • The MyMail service charge of $0.01 per kilobyte will NOT apply while roaming.
    • ALL NORMAL GPRS roaming charges WILL apply.
    • The GPRS roaming charges are dependent on the roaming country and network.
    37. Are customers notified of the browsing rates for the MyMail service?
    • YES. Once customers select the EMAIL link from under the MY Digicel tab on the Digicel Live homepage, a message appears indicating the following:

    MyMail allows you to access and manage your internet email accounts on your mobile phone. Once connected to the service, you have access to some of your desktop functionalities but on your mobile phone. There is
    No monthly charge to use the MyMail service outside the Normal WAP/GPRS traffic charges.”

      • This message is shown before the MyMail homepage loads so customers will have the option of continuing to use the service or returning to the Digicel Live homepage.
      • The charges are also mentioned under General Information which is found under the HELP section on the MyMail homepage.
    38. What are some of the error messages that I might receive when using MyMail service?
